Important distinctionSkunkworks Academy offers introductory, non-accredited online theory courses. This careers hub is a guide, not a live job board or recruitment guarantee. QCTO accreditation, trade tests, practical competence and employer placement are separate processes. Always verify a provider's accreditation scope and a vacancy directly.

Interview and workplace-readiness help

Before an interview

Read the advert; bring requested identification only through safe official channels; understand the role's safety demands; be ready to discuss what you actually know.

Evidence, not exaggeration

Interview question practice

“What would you do if you noticed an unsafe machine?” Explain how you would keep clear, alert others, follow reporting procedures, and seek a competent supervisor.

Safety-first answers

Spot recruitment scams

Never pay a recruiter or employer to guarantee work. Check company domains, independently confirm vacancies, protect identity and bank information, and avoid suspicious links.

Frequently asked questions

Will a free Skunkworks course qualify me as an artisan?

No. These are non-accredited introductory theory courses. Becoming an artisan requires the applicable recognised qualification route, supervised practical learning, assessment and any relevant trade test.

Does merSETA give me a job when I sign up?

No. Employers recruit for apprenticeship and learnership vacancies and set their own lawful selection criteria. merSETA publishes sector information and processes; a vacancy must be verified with the recruiting organisation.

Can I do all trade training on my phone?

You can study entry-level theory online. Welding, electrical installation, automotive repairs and other hazardous trade competencies need supervised equipment-based practice and approved assessment.

Is this only for unemployed youth?

No. Every Skunkworks introductory course and the tools on this page are open to all; third-party youth programmes have their own eligibility restrictions.

What should I ask a training provider before paying?

Request its full legal name, accreditation number, the exact qualification or skills programme scope, assessment arrangement, fees, duration and refund terms. Check those claims in the QCTO official database independently.

Will my information be stored?

The CV is generated in memory without server submission. Only checklist tick marks are saved locally on your current browser; clearing browser data removes them. Outbound official sites use their own privacy notices.
